Truly a Miracle

מובן מאליו - Taken for granted

Today is the official Hebrew Day in Israel.

I’m certain that most Israelis aren’t even aware of it - this miraculous language has taken such deep roots that it’s starting to be taken for granted.

Sometimes, as I walk down the street, I see advertisements, hear children playing, listen to music, and marvel—does everyone here realize they’re part of a miracle?

Hebrew is an ancient language, so ancient that we know people carved it into stone.

Hebrew is also a ghost—it died and was revived against all odds.

Hebrew is both mathematical and spiritual -in theater, poetry, and culture, when non-biblical words were lacking, they were invented based on mathematics, rhythm, and the spiritual connections built on three-letter roots.

Hebrew is constantly evolving and doesn’t always align with the thinking of those in the Hebrew academia.

Words are invented by babies, by high-tech workers, and by new immigrants.

Everyone makes “mistakes,” borrowing and importing words, and in doing so, spreads and enriches the language.

Hebrew has words from English, French, Arabic, German, and Yiddish.

Hebrew is everything, and yet unlike anything.

Hebrew is my mother tongue, even though my grandparents learned it from scratch.

I don’t know what it feels like to speak in other mother tongue languages.

To what extent can a word move one in another language? -

Hebrew is my breath, my dreams, and my hope. It moves and excites me.

Every day my children invent new words.

Every day I discover new connections.

Every day, another piece in the puzzle of the past and the future comes together through this miracle—Hebrew.

The process of revitalizing Hebrew is not over; it is still happening. It is not a creation out of thin air, but an expansion and consolidation of what already exists, deeply connected to past generations.

The process of revitalizing Hebrew includes everyone who fights for it, studies it, and speaks it.

To all of you, I say thank you.

This is something I do not take for granted.
