Shared Hebrew Lessons Levels

Level A: First Steps in Hebrew You’re just getting started with Hebrew. You know the letters, can read some simple words, know how to count to 10, and can say a few everyday things (like Shalom or Boker tov to your neighbours). But you don’t really speak Hebrew yet. You’re not comfortable building sentences or using verbs, and concepts like the present tense are still new to you. Basically, you’re taking your first real steps in Hebrew.

Level A+: Building Your Hebrew You’ve already taken your first steps in Hebrew and can manage some basic communication. You can read simple words and sentences, understand familiar expressions, and say a few things about yourself and your everyday life. You’re starting to build sentences and use the present tense, but speaking still takes effort, and you often have to stop and think about how to say things. Basically, you have some Hebrew under your belt, and now you’re ready to start actually using it.

Level B: Getting Comfortable in Hebrew You can already have simple conversations in Hebrew and manage many everyday situations. You know how to use the present tense to talk about your routine, describe what you’re doing, and handle everyday conversations in the here and now. You can talk about yourself, your family, your routine and things you like. But conversations can still feel difficult - especially when people speak quickly, ask unexpected questions, or you need to talk about something beyond your usual vocabulary. You’re ready to move from knowing some Hebrew to feeling more comfortable using it.

Level B+: Making Hebrew Part of Your Life You can already manage simple conversations and talk about your experiences, not just your daily routine. You’re beginning to use different tenses, tell short stories and describe things with more detail. You have a growing vocabulary and can usually get your meaning across - even if the grammar isn’t always perfect. You might still search for words or feel less confident when conversations become faster or more complex. Basically, you speak Hebrew in many situations, and now you’re working on making it more flexible and fluid.

Level C: Speaking with Confidence You speak Hebrew quite comfortably in everyday situations. You know how to use the present and past tenses, and you can tell stories, describe experiences, and talk about more subjective things - like your feelings, thoughts and opinions. You can usually follow what’s being said around you, but fast, spontaneous Hebrew can still be challenging. You may still search for words or make some grammar mistakes. You’re ready to move beyond simply getting by and toward speaking Hebrew with real confidence and ease.

Level C+: From Good Hebrew to Natural Hebrew You’re already a confident Hebrew speaker. You can use the present, past and future tenses, participate in conversations and talk about a wide range of topics. You can follow a conversation even when you don’t understand every single word, using context to keep up and stay engaged. Now the challenge is in the details: expanding your vocabulary, understanding more nuance and idiomatic language, and making your Hebrew feel more natural and flexible. Basically, you can speak Hebrew - now you want it to feel really natural.

Level D: Advanced Hebrew Hebrew is already a real part of your life. You can handle complex conversations, express yourself clearly and discuss ideas, experiences, feelings and opinions in depth. You can understand different kinds of spoken Hebrew and adapt to different situations. At this level, the focus isn’t on learning to speak Hebrew. It’s about refining your Hebrew - becoming more precise, natural and nuanced, expanding your vocabulary, and feeling completely at home in the language.

Level H: Academic & Professional Hebrew Your Hebrew is already very fluent. You can communicate comfortably, follow conversations, express yourself clearly, and handle a wide range of situations. Now you want to use your Hebrew for a specific academic or professional goal - perhaps preparing for an exam, studying in Hebrew, working in a professional environment, or giving presentations. At this level, we focus on precision, formal language, complex texts, and the specific Hebrew you need to succeed in your academic or professional life.
